JANET D’ADDARIO

Dec. 10, 1948 - June 14, 2021

We are saddened by the passing of Janet D’Addario, one of the greatest champions of Providence House’s mission, and a very dear friend to the organization and its people.

She is survived by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Jim D’Addario; and their three children: Julie (Pat); Amy (Marcus) and Robert (Gina); and eight grandchildren, and her beloved dogs. In addition to her philanthropic work at Providence House, Janet was a talented musician and prolific painter. She was a driving force in growing D’Addario & Co., a top music accessory business, as well as the D’Addario Foundation and a series of classical music concerts in cities worldwide.

Janet first connected with us through her volunteer work at the Bedford Women’s Correctional Facility in Westchester County. Compassionate and driven, she soon became a pivotal advocate and leader for this work, joining the board of trustees in 1998 and becoming Board President in 2004, serving in that capacity for 15 years. During Janet’s time on the board she led fundraising efforts through the annual People of Hope event and helped to create the organization’s first permanent supportive housing effort, the 46-unit Jim & Janet D’Addario Residence in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

Janet was deeply concerned about cycles of homelessness and incarceration affecting the residents at Providence House, and she strongly believed in their ability to overcome adversity. Her greatest legacy at Providence House is in the changed lives of thousands of women and children who never met her personally. We are grateful to have known her, to have had her leadership in this work, and to carry it on with all of you.
