Celebrating Social Worker Month: Meet Antonette Jones!
March is Social Worker Awareness Month, and we at Providence House want to take the time to put a spotlight on an incredible member of our team: Antonette Jones. Antonette is a case manager at our Bishop Sullivan residence and she works with individuals placed in supportive housing. Having studied criminal justice, she credits her forensic science classes for her unique perspective on the nuances of the neurological recovery processes for those who are living with a mental illness.
In her work at Providence House, Antonette attributes her greatest accomplishments to the residents’ achievements of their personal goals — the most incremental goals that are set and then met by a resident is the object of her focus. Challenges can arise with residents who are extremely independent and who don’t benefit from a hands-on approach, but Antonette remains attentive to determine when it is more productive for her to provide space for growth and healing.
One resident in particular who had arrived at Providence House had recently experienced the loss of her son; the trauma of which left her emotionally and physically debilitated. Antonette’s unique strategic approach allowed her to create a strong relationship with this resident, and through their work together the resident was able to return to their baseline, free of physical ailments. The two of them continue to have a great relationship to this day, one which Antonette strives to replicate throughout the program with all of whom she serves.
